With the HP 17BII financial calculator, you can perform more than 250 business and statistical functions from wherever you happen to be. You can calculate loan payments, amortization, interest rates and conversion, internal rate of return, net present value, bond price and yield, depreciation, and percentages, to name only a few.

The bottom line on the two-line display shows the menu labels for the five major menus in the calculator: Financial, Business Percentages, Statistics, Time Manager, and Equation Solver. The menu keys allow you to shift between functions. The top line shows the numbers or letters you enter and the resulting calculation. Each menu has subfunctions and built-in variables for greater complexity. A beeper sounds when you press the wrong key, when an error occurs, or when you are late for an appointment.

The HP 17BII has 8,000 total bytes in RAM (6,750 bytes plus 1,250 for your built-in variables). You can monitor the available memory (both in bytes and percentages) by pressing shift-MEM. The calculator retains current functions until you press "clear data." If you accidentally shut the machine off, just turn it back on and your calculation will reappear. After 10 minutes of nonuse the calculator turns itself off, but your most recent information will still be there.

The HP financial calculator interfaces with an HP infrared printer (sold separately), allowing you to print tables, lists, and payment schedules whether you are--in a meeting or on an airplane.

The Best Ever! : HP 17BII Financial Calculator

The HP-17ii is the most intuitively clear financial calculator I have ever seen or used.

I have been teaching finance for undergraduate and graduate students for a number of years. This calculator, although expensive, is the best of the bunch. I have used HP-12C and HP-18, a wide variety of (poorly constructed) TI calculators, but I have not found a more apt, easy to use, intuitive calculator than the HP-17ii. My graduate students find it very useful and easy to use. For them the RPN is not a problem.

While the 12C is considered the "industry standard", it is very difficult to use; it is an old platform and slow. The [$] price difference is well worth it. Although the HP-17ii is widely used in the investment business, it cannot be used on the AIMR administered CFA exams. This is a consideration.

The only problem I have is the price; it is not entirely possible to ask undergraduate students at a public institution to fork out [$]. In my undergraduate classes I use the HP-10.

Great little netbook! : Acer Aspire One AOD255-2509 10.1-Inch Netbook (Diamond Black)

I bought this little critter as a backup to my desktop. I put my business on both. I have a backup hard drive on it... I don't trust any electronics. But when the desktop has problems, the Acer rescues me. This Acer has been in a day pack and jammed into a kayak floating down the Amazon for 21 days, it's been in a backpack for 5 weeks walking\hiking in Peru. It's just returned from 3 weeks of trekking in Nepal (dust, snow storm, jarring drops, constant jiggling), a week in India and China. It gets put into my briefcase nearly daily and tossed into the car or tied the back of a motorcycle. It's been camping in Yosemite... blah blah and it's still working. Runs a little slow... hey, it's a $300 machine what do you expect? If you want speed and a real key board spend $300 more and get a 15" machine. This is not fun to type on all day either. But if you wish to check email, do some smaller word.doc's, give a powerpoint presentation, then this little less than 3 pound machine does it. Now I did buy at the start a 2 gig ram chip. Took out the one gig, but in a two gig. Did it myself and I don't know what I'm doing, so it must not be that hard. Supposedly this increased my speed by 18% or so, don't know that I notice it much. Hard to tell the difference between a 2second and a 1.5 second delay. One thing about these customer reviews is that they're always recent, I thought it would be nice to see a longer term review. I gave it 4 stars because as other have said "it's a little slow", but gosh, it's otherwise doing really well. My Acer was purchased June 30 2009. Very Impressive and easy to setup BUT : Lexmark Platinum Pro905 Business Class Wireless Multifunction Inkjet Printer with Web-Enabled Touchscreen

I purchased the Lexmark Platinum Pro905 because of the advertised warranty and ink cost / savings. Very disappointed with both the warranty and ink usage.
I received the printer from Amazon around the middle of August 2010. I connected it to my home network without a problem and the interface to operate it was easy to understand. I was very pleased with the printer at this time.

Around October 29,2010 I contacted Lexmark help line because I was out of Cyan ink and two of the other cartridge appeared low to me.

I thought we only printed about 30 or 40 pages since purchase, but after about 2 hours on the help line (he networked into my pc to check the printer out) I was told that we printed 119 pages per the self test page. Which still did not explain all the ink use. Also while looking at the self test page I noticed the print head information indicated ink usage as 1% black used, 1% yellow used, 2% Cyan used, and 1% Magenta used. It also showed that 74 pages were printed. I brought this to the attention of the support staff person and he could not explain the difference.

Support decided to send me a cyan cartridge, have me install it and call back to see it they could repair the issue then. For some reason he could not get the printer to do what he was trying to do. He said that if that solved the issue then he would send me the other three cartridges. If it did not solve the problem he was going to send me another print head. I had no problem at this point. At least they appeared to be standing behind their product. He was going to rush the ink cartridge (3 to 5 days)

Two week later I for called again for the cartridge that had not been delivered yet. I received it 3 days later.

After receiving I installed and called the help line for them to check the printer again. Completely different story now. They would send me the other three cartridges one time and nothing is wrong with the printer. I explained that I purchased the Lexmark because of the warranty and the low cost of ink that they advertised and I was not happy with either right now. I was informed that I had the printer over 30 days now and I was stuck with the printer. I told them that I replace a HP Photosmart for their printer due to ink cost and the Lexmark did not print as sharp as the HP and it was costing me more for the Lexmark ink at this rate than HP. I was told she was very sorry but she could not do anything for me.

I told her that I felt the ink advertisement and warranty they advertised was false and I would let anyone I met know not to purchase a Lexmark product.

If you managed to get a Lexmark that works as advertised, good for you. If you do not have a lexmark, do not purchase one.

I called Amazon help line and as usual they surpassed any expectation I had after explaining my problem.

You can not go wrong purchasing anything from Amazon.

Do not purchase a Lexmark printer ever.

By the way. I connected my HP Photosmart back up and it is working like a charm. I just hate the price of ink.
